Interview with Patricia Klobusiczky
“A GOOD TRANSLATION REQUIRES LIVELY LANGUAGE”
 
Currently, ten young translators from France, Germany and Switzerland are participating in the Goldschmidt Programme of the Frankfurter Buchmesse, honing their skills. The translator Patricia Klobusiczky leads the programme’s translation workshop. THESE BOOKS WANT TO HIT THE BIG SCREEN
 
It’s that time of year again: On Monday, 19 February, at “Books at Berlinale”, copyright holders will present 12 international novels with high screen-adaptation potential to try to win over film producers with their material. This year’s crop includes the new novel In the Midst of Winter by Isabel Allende and the thriller Where the Missing Go by Emma Rowley. The event is co-hosted by Berlinale and Frankfurter Buchmesse. FRANKFURT’S RIGHTS TUESDAY – SECURE YOUR TABLE NOW
 
The Tuesday before the Frankfurter Buchmesse (10-14 October 2018) is all about rights: Agents and scouts from all around the world schedule their appointments in our Literary Agents & Scouts Centre (LitAg), and rights managers from publishing houses and agencies meet with editors and publishers in the Publishers Rights Corner (PRC). A record-breaking number of tables have already been sold by now. So be quick to book your table! The deadline to book tables in the LitAg is 31 January. PEACE PRIZE 2018: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
 
The German Publishers and Booksellers Association calls for nominations for the Peace Prize, which will be awarded on 14 October 2018 in the Church of St. Paul (Paulskirche) in Frankfurt. According to the statute of the Peace Prize foundation, individuals who will qualify will have “contributed to the ideals of peace, humanity and understanding among all peoples and nations of the world through their exceptional activities, especially in the fields of literature, science and art”. PREMIERE FOR THE CHILDREN‘S BOOKS SALON IN NEW YORK
 
The first Children’s Books Salon, organised by the Frankfurter Buchmesse’s New York office and the trade magazine Publishing Perspectives with support of the German Federal Foreign Office took place in New York City earlier this week. Around 30 international publishers, editors, and rights directors from nine nations met to strengthen their relationships and discuss market issues.
