Dear Sir or Madam,

How can culture contribute to solving our global challenges? How do culture activists succeed in initiating debates and how revolutionary must they be in order to make a lasting difference? We will be asking these questions at this year's Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2019). Together with the United Nations (UN) and the German Publishers and Booksellers Association, we are launching the campaign "Create your Revolution – Initiative for the Future of Culture". Curious? Find out more in this issue of our newsletter!

Have fun reading!

Create your Revolution

Let’s talk about the Future of Culture

Culture is what can bring about change and progress – without culture there is no future! Therefore, Frankfurter Buchmesse, together with the United Nations and the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels, is launching the global campaign “Create your Revolution – Initiative for the Future of Culture”. As part of the campaign the interactive festival THE ARTS+/B3, that takes place during Frankfurter Buchmesse, is inviting change makers from all culture and creative industries to submit loud, bold, and revolutionary ideas. The call for participation is now open until 31 July 2019.

Expanded book sales at the weekend

For the first time, exhibitors at Frankfurter Buchmesse will be able to sell books and media on both the Saturday and Sunday (19 and 20 October 2019) of the fair. Many exhibitors already offer their books for sale on Sunday and can now do so on Saturday as well. The organisers of the world’s largest industry event are thereby accommodating a wish expressed by many publishers.

Guest of Honour Norway

Poster competition

"The dream we carry", the theme of Frankfurter Buchmesse's Guest of Honour Norway, inspired the winners of the competition for young designers: their works alienate the "dreamers" and show new interpretations. Design students from all over Germany and Switzerland have contributed to this year's contest. The winners are: Silvan Bearth (F+F School of Art and Design, Zurich), Philip Martin Pothfelder (Rhine-Waal University of Applied Science, Kleve) and Paul Eßer (University of Applied Science, Mainz). The first two designs of the poster competition will be showcased as posters, a set of 10 postcards will be available during the fair. The contributions have been submitted anonymously.
