Coronavirus has turned the world upside down. While public life is coming to a standstill, the internet activity has never been higher. The Frankfurter Buchmesse team is now working from home, but we still expect the fair to take place this coming October. Reading recommendations from the FBM team
At the moment we are spending more time at home than ever before. Time to read at last! The FBM team will be sharing their personal book recommendations from their home offices in the upcoming weeks. On our Instagram channel @buchmesse, our FBM colleagues will be presenting their favourite books and must-reads and letting you know what they are currently reading. Even though many stores are closed at the moment, numerous local bookshops are taking orders by phone or online, and will deliver books to your home.

Why book fairs are crucial
After the cancellation of the book fairs in London, Paris, Bologna and Leipzig recently, many people have been asking how the publishing industry will deal with this new, inherently uncertain situation. Juergen Boos, Director of Frankfurter Buchmesse, talked about the role of book fairs for the industry and what's missing at virtual events.

Guest of Honour 2020: Canada
Books on Canada exhibition
For the Guest of Honour exhibition, Frankfurter Buchmesse will be inviting publishing companies from all over the world to present their current titles relating to the Guest of Honour at the exhibition "Books on Canada" in the Frankfurter Buchmesse Guest of Honour Pavilion. Publishers from around the world are invited to take part with their current titles by Canadian authors in translation as well as books about Canada. To submit your book on Canada, please fill in this form.

Apply now for the Frankfurt Fellowship and Invitation Programmes
Applications are now open for Frankfurter Buchmesse´s international fellowship and grant programmes. This year´s Frankfurt Fellowship Programme and the Invitation Programme will have a special focus on children´s and young adult publishing. Publishers, literary agents, editors and rights and licensing managers from these fields are encouraged to apply before 30 April 2020.

International projects
On the couch instead of Texas: #CouchbyCouchwest
The South by Southwest Festival 2020, which was supposed to take place in Austin, was cancelled due to COVID-19. Our partner german.innovation, with whom we had planned an exciting program together, is therefore inviting visitors to participate in digital exchange and networking under the motto #couchbycouchwest. Which exciting participants would have been in Austin? What are their stories and plans? Among the participants are our guests, curator Yasha Young and Uli Dangel, Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Texas, who will give an insight into their work.

In times of crisis: "What can publishing offer right now?"
The BOOKFEST 2020 Call for Participation is now open and international publishers and partners can submit their ideas by 30 April. Publishing Perspectives picked up our call in their latest Spring issue and provides readers with all the latest publishing industry news too. The magazine can be downloaded for free.
